Braided Ladders - Braided ladders are the white or colored threads that support and lift the slates of a horizontal blind. We use premium ladders in our top quality blinds, making them available to you at no extra charge. For a decorative option, you may select decorative cloth tapes in place of the braided ladders for 2" blinds, and perhaps others, if shown.
Cloth Tapes - Cloth Tapes, usually about 1.5" wide, Available instead of standard braided ladders. Fashion solids available for all four wood families. Decorative tapes available for 2" Premium Hardwood Blinds. Blinds with cloth tapes will have traditional route holes.
Color and Pattern Matching - Color samples, particularly those shown on computer monitors are to represent the actual product sold. Free or paid samples will never be an exact match to the final product you receive, and color variations are to be expected. Even within one product, not every slat will be exactly the same as the others. These "beauty marks" and normal variations are a standard in the industry and are not a cause for product rejection.
Cord Tilt Control - Standard for 2" blinds- use a pair of tassel ended cords to cause your blinds to tilt accurately with a light pull. Many 2" horizontal blinds will allow you to order this to be manufactured on the left or the right side, for your convenience.
Extension Brackets - Many windows or installations may require installing a little further from the wall. This can be useful when the window has a large lower window sill, or other obstruction. Remember to order these at the time of ordering. If your product does not list it as an option, you can request it by entering it in the Comments section of the order page.
Exterior Shade- If a product is to be used outside, there are some changes that need to be made. Some of our products offer a stainless steel based system, which will allow the control system to last longer. Please remember that you do need to clean the exterior shades regularly and allow them to dry to avoid dirt and other build-up.
Fabric Tapes- A coordinated look or a contrasted design can make a blind or shade look much more fashionable for your windows. Choose our Fabric Tapes- made from Narrow Woven Cloth- in only high quality materials, when you want to design like a Decorator.
Frames- Frames on a shutter are the decorative element that mounts around the shutter panel. Frames can help cover imperfections, and allow for a flush installation in a window. L-Frames are useful for both inside as well as outside the window, while Z-Frames are sold only for inside mount windows.
Frame Sides- Shutters can cover most windows, but often, you may have a window sill, and thus not want to have a frame covering the bottom of the window. Or, you may have a molding on the top of your window, or the sides. For this reason, we have the exclusive benefit of offering the options of No Sides, Four Sides, No Top, No Bottom, or Both.
HeadRail - The headrail is a solid section at the top of a blind or shade. This solid section, usually metal with working parts inside, is where the heart of the blind or shade function lies. Some horizontal blinds allow you to order multiple blinds on a single headrail.
Hidden Tilt- Some shutter buyers do not like the way a tiltrod appears in the middle of the shutter- on the room side. For these buyers, we can manufacture the shutters with the tiltrod on the back, allowing for a more modern styling of the shutters.
Hold Down Brackets - Special clips that can hold a blind or shade at the bottom. An example of when these might be useful is when you are installing the blind on a door. The hold down brackets can hold the blind to the door at the bottom, so the swinging motion does not cause severe damage to the door or the blind. Our brackets are permanently installed, but the clips can be removed, in order to still raise the blind. Request these at the time of your ordering.
Inside Mount - When your product is to be installed inside the window frame. This system allows for a more recessed installation, when compared to the Outside Mount.
Lift Control - All blinds and shades that raise up have a lift system. Many will use simple cords, others may use our SmoothLift continuous system. The standard systems are usually cord lift. Many products allow you to order the lift control to be on the left or right side, for your convenience.
Lining- Some of our treatments, including the woven woods, are available lined. This premium liner is part of the shade and allows for better privacy, light control and presentation of the shades by limiting the light transmitting through the product.
Louver Size - In Shutters, Louvers are the slats that run from one side of the shutter to the other. In a standard shutter, these are movable with a tiltrod. Larger Louvers make a dramatic presentation on large shutters, and Smaller Louvers are useful in windows without a deep recess.
Mount Position - See Inside Mount or Outside Mount.
Motorized Controls - When considering the high-tech option of making your blinds or shades move, a remote control or a wall switch (or both) with motorization options are available. Due to the complexities of motorization, we do not currently take these orders through our main site. Please contact us to discuss how easy and affordable it can be to motorize. Prices start at as little as $400 per treatment surcharge.
Multiple Blinds - When windows are particularly large, you may want to or might need to, use several blinds. Very large blinds can be very heavy and while our components are particularly strong, the physical strength you will use to lift these may be too great. By putting several blinds on the same headrail, we are able to align then blinds a bit closer to each other. Installation of a very large blind will require extra help, to avoid damage.
Outside Mount - Products to be installed outside the frame of the window. This can be useful when a window is very much out of square or otherwise imperfect, when you have a window that you wish to look larger, when you choose to have a larger blind or shade cover it, or when you want more light or energy insulation.
Privacy Control - Many buyers choose their window coverings to create a private space. Many of our window coverings allow you to adjust and moderate privacy by having a full sheet of fabric, or a section of slats which cover the window at your command.
Route Holes- Horizontal blinds are lifted by cords that run through the slats. If you want to avoid these holes, you may wish to select the premium option of RouteLess blinds.
SmoothLift- A quiet, easier to control mechanism is offered exclusively on many of our products. Our Exclusive SmoothLift is a single control system that reduces the effort required on many products. This can help the product last longer by limiting contact with the actual blind or shade.
Style - With Shutters- the Style is a choice of how you want your shutters configured. As an example- an Panel_LR is a shutter that opens to the left and right- in a center opening. In our site, we have an exclusive "Configurator". This is area on our pages allows you to see many of the options you select. Your choice of Style for your shutters, or Valance for other products will appear in this box based on your selection.
Tilt Control - The system you can use to adjust the orientation of that the slats of a blind. Cord Tilt, Wand Tilt, or SmoothLift are several of our options. These must be specified at the time of ordering.
Valance- Many window coverings have less than good looking control systems. Our Valances allow you to cover these with a coordinated material. Our Valances are so good looking we offer them with nearly every product- and most products have a standard valance included, while some may offer upgraded valances.
