The following details are important to consider:
  • The Minimum Panel Width is 10 inches,
  • The Maximum Panel Width is 35 inches
  • Maximum Panel Width for bifolded (hinged) is 26 inches
  • Minimum Panel Height is 10 inches
  • Maximum Panel Height is 120 inches
  • Shutters wider than 103 inches must have a T-post
  • Frames wider than 119 inches will be spliced.
  • All Panels taller than 72 inches need a divider rail for support- while you may specify position, it may fluctuate by 1 1/2 inch- up or down- depending on louver size.

Window Clearances Must be at Least the Distance here from the window to the wall (the depth of the window.)

Louver Clearances
  2 1/2" Louver   3 1/2" Louver  4 1/2" Louver
Smallest L Frames Outside of Window  1/2" 1"
 1 1/2" Bull Nose Z  1 1/2"  2"  2 1/2"
 3" Crown Z Frame  1 1/2"  1 7/8"  2 1/3"

If your shutter is too close to the window, you can apply some filler extensions to the wall or window frame to make the shutter a little further from the window.

Separately, hidden tiltrods require an extra 1/2" of clearance from the shutter louvers.

Selection of a configuration is important for us to know how you want to design your shutters. If your shutter size does not comply exactly with the drawing, we consider these to be an approximate design for your shutters. We may need to confirm certain items with you, and while this may add a little time to your order- at least you will get the shutters you want.

Shutters are beautiful. Much of the beauty of shutters is the framing around them. Using stylish framing on shutters, you are able to decorate and coordinate into your interiors.

Please take note that some of these frames are for inside the window frame only, and if you order these on an outside mount shutter, it will delay processing while we confirm these specifications with you.

If a frame shows measurements, this is intended to show you it will work for you- there are tolerances where sizes may not be exact, but are within acceptable tolerances.

Z Frame - for Inside or Outside Mount Shutters

Inside or Outside Mount

The part facing into the rooms is the decorative beaded side (top for L-Frame, and bottom for Z-Frame, in the above images. The Z-Frame, as well as Outside Mount in general, is highly recommended. Most windows are not square, and this type of installation will keep the shutters easy to install and looking nice.

A square window is one where each diagonal measurement is equal, and the difference between these is not more than 1/8 inch. This means that the top left to the bottom right, compared to the measurement of the top right to the bottom left- these need to be within 1/8 of an inch of each other. If not, an inside mount shutter may not fit correctly.
